Cherry Creek Schools honor our nation’s heroes
Cheers and tears, heartfelt words of thanks, moving music, patriotic parades, and even a surprise family reunion marked Veterans Week in the Cherry Creek School District. Every school in the district held a special celebration to honor our nation’s veterans and active duty servicemen and women.

At Mission Viejo Elementary, first grader Christina Cella was reunited with her dad, Navy Petty Officer Joseph Cella, whom she had not seen since last December.  Aspen Crossing Elementary hosted a display of military vehicles and treated honored guests to a colorful parade. West Middle School students staged a flag gauntlet outside their school and Endeavor Academy held a special assembly that included a Native American blessing.  At Eaglecrest High School, veterans led students in the Pledge of Allegiance and at Overland High School veterans were presented with the Blazer Medal of Excellence.

In all, more than 3,000 veterans, active duty servicemen and women, and other guests attended one or more of the 61 Veterans Week celebrations held Nov. 5-9.
