Sunrise Elementary students get lesson in lacrosse, life

Students from Sunrise Elementary got a lesson in lacrosse and life on Feb. 4. They got to meet and work with three players from the Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse team. Defenseman Robert Hope, forward Eli McLaughlin and forward John Grant, Jr. did a demonstration and talked with students during an assembly for first through fifth grade students.

The athletes encouraged the students to do their best in school – to focus on school first and sports second. They said academics and athletics go hand in hand, as they paid for their college educations in part through scholarships they earned for playing lacrosse.

Later in the day, the players worked with small groups of students on basic lacrosse skills.

Mammoth players visit several Denver-area schools each season to share their love of lacrosse with students. Sunrise families also had the opportunity to buy discounted tickets to a Mammoth game to see the players in action.
