Summer bond project work hits the roof

While most students are enjoying summer break, crews are hard at work making improvements to their schools before classes resume in August.

As part of the Bond Project referendum that voters approved in 2012, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC, systems are being replaced at several schools. New rooftop units were recently installed at Mission Viejo Elementary, Horizon Community Middle School and Cherry Creek High School. The cooling tower at Grandview High School, which has been in place since the school opened in 1998 was refurbished, since that was a more cost-effective option than replacement.

At Smoky Hill High School, the roof itself is being replaced and new skylights are being installed.

All of these improvements are necessary to protect the investment taxpayers have made in Cherry Creek schools, as well as ensure that students and teachers have safe and comfortable classrooms that are conducive to teaching and learning.
