OHS students build, deliver bicycles with Wishes for Wheels

OHS students building bicyclesDuring the past two months, a group of students from Overland High School sharpened their mechanical and community service skills and made a dream come true for a group of local kindergarteners. Thirty OHS students, including seniors on the school’s Student Council and members of the Beautiful Rides Bike Club, partnered with Wishes for Wheels. The Colorado-based non-profit that provides free, new bicycles for kids and gives them an opportunity to experience the childhood milestone of owning their first bike.

OHS student with bicycles they built On Feb. 2, the Overland students spent time together building 50 new bicycles provided by Wishes for Wheels. In addition to building the bikes, the students also gave each one a thorough safety check. Then on Feb. 5, the OHS students delivered the two-wheelers to kindergarten students at Lyn Knoll Elementary in Aurora. The high school students helped fit the kindergarteners with bicycle helmets and also taught some of the youngsters how to ride their new bikes.

499 Wishes for Wheels 4.jpgThe heartwarming event helped fulfill the wishes of a group of kindergartners and the OHS students who volunteered for the project were happy to donate their time to such a positive cause.
