Cherry Creek Schools, under the leadership of the district’s Food and Nutrition Services Department, is celebrating National School Breakfast Week, March 5-9, 2012. The week is a time to communicate the importance of eating a healthy breakfast and to encourage families to take advantage of the school breakfast program available daily in each of our schools.
Why celebrate breakfast? Because it’s essential that all of our students eat a healthy breakfast to perform at their best! This year’s theme, Go for Gold, ties to the coming 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London and encourages students to not only eat a balanced breakfast but also to participate in some type of physical activity each day.
Here are just a few of the advantages of eating breakfast. Students who consistently eat breakfast:
Score higher on tests
Are better able to concentrate in class
Have fewer discipline issues in school
Are better able to maintain a healthy weight
