The people who prepare and serve delicious, nutritious meals (more than 784,000 breakfasts and 3.7 million lunches annually!) to students in the Cherry Creek School District are also talented gingerbread artists. Staff members from more than 30 school cafeterias built colorful and creative gingerbread houses as part of a fun-filled contest sponsored by the district’s Food and Nutrition Services Department.See photos of all the houses on the Cherry Creek Schools Facebook page
“We’re always looking for ways to catch the kids’ interest,” said Beth Wallace, director of Food and Nutrition Services. “They see that our cafeteria employees like to celebrate the winter holidays and have fun. Plus it’s a great team-building activity for our employees and really brings out their creativity.”
Creativity indeed! There were majestic mansions, clever cottages and one gingerbread house that got hit by an avalanche!! They were deliciously decorated and inhabited by all kinds of culinary creatures.
The winners of the contest were:
• First place - Greenwood Elementary
• Second place - Sky Vista Middle School
• Third place- Holly Ridge Primary
There will be a drawing at each participating school. One lucky student who eats breakfast or lunch at school will get to take the gingerbread house home, while another student will win a gingerbread house kit.Posted December 17, 2013.
