Elementary #42 under construction in Tallyn’s Reach
The site work is done and construction is underway on Elementary #42, the newest school in the Cherry Creek School District. The 68,000 square foot facility, which will accommodate 650 students, is located at 25233 E. Glasgow Drive in the Tallyn’s Reach subdivision in Aurora.  Budgeted at $16 million, it’s the second of three elementary schools approved by voters in the 2008 bond election.
While architect LKA Partners, Inc. and general contractor Bassett & Associates focus on building the school, principal Stacey Peoples is focused on building the school community.
“My goal is to meet every family before we open in 2012,” said Peoples, who is currently the principal at Highline Community Elementary. “The development and design of our new school’s climate is a responsibility we will accomplish together.  We will work to create a learning environment which provides life opportunities for every single child, thus ensuring excellence.”
Peoples is holding informal meetings with families in the area, to discuss her vision for a school with exceptional teachers, challenging academics, the latest technology and parent and community partnerships.
“Together we will ensure that every single child becomes passionate about learning,” she said.
The Board of Education will determine the boundaries for Elementary #42 this fall. That will be followed by community meetings to develop recommendations for the school name, mascot and colors.
Construction is scheduled for completion in April 2012 and the school will welcome its first students in August 2012.
