Dr. Harry Bull named 2015 Communicator of the Year by the Colorado School Public Relations Association

Last year, Bull helped lead a partnership of parents, colleagues and legislators to restore some of the voter-approved Amendment 23 funding to public schools for the 2014-2015 school year that was withheld during the recession.  Because of those efforts, the legislature restored $110 million of more than $1 billion in funds that had been withheld.

"Dr. Bull was a clear choice to receive this award for the role he played in organizing school superintendents across the state to establish and assert a consistent 'voice' for superintendents as they addressed state legislators and stakeholders regarding the needs of K-12 schools," the CoSPRA selection committee wrote. "This Superintendent's Summit resulted in the creation of a positioning paper, 'stakeholder letter concerning public school funding,' and messaging to major Front Range media. These efforts, expanded across the state district-by-district, created a grassroots level of support from voters who reached out to express their expectations to elected officials."

"(Dr. Bull) is a strong listener, problem solver and a natural born leader for public schools in Colorado."

~ Sen. Nancy Todd

The nomination included letters letter from parents, CCSD Board of Education President Jim O'Brien and Colorado State Senator Nancy Todd of Aurora.

"Dr. Bull has been willing to include all interested parties in making decisions which effect the citizens from the Governor, the budget planners, legislators to parents," Sen. Todd wrote. "He has fought to keep local control within the district school boards and has encouraged parents and community members to take these issues to State Legislators. He is a strong listener, problem solver and a natural born leader for public schools in Colorado."

"I am honored and humbled by this award," Bull said. "I know I share it with the many other leaders who joined in the continuing effort to see that all of our children have the resources they need to be successful in higher education and their careers. Most of all I am grateful to the parents of our students for their tireless advocacy of our neighborhood schools."

Bull will be receive the honor at the 2015 CoSPRA Spring Banquet on May 8, 2015.
