The Cherry Creek School Board voted Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2011 to cancel the Nov. 1 election as all three seats are uncontested, saving the district about $60,000.
Three of the five seats were up for re-election. Board members Jim O’Brien and Claudine McDonald, both elected in 2008, are unopposed. They will each serve a second four-year term.
Former board President Aagje Barber is term-limited and will step down in November. Her seat will be filled by David Willman, the only candidate to file papers for the seat, which represents Director District C along the Smoky Hill corridor.
Willman, a small business owner, is the parent of two children, one a junior at Smoky Hill High School, and the other 2011 graduate now attending the University of Northern Colorado. He has served on the Parent Teacher Council beginning in elementary school though high school, the District Accountability Committee, the Wellness Advisory Committee, the Community Assets Project board, and is a 2010 graduate of the Leadership Cherry Creek program.
“My heart has always been about children, and I am very excited about this new opportunity to serve all of the children in the Cherry Creek School District,” Willman said.
Willman will be sworn in at the Nov. 14, 2011 Board of Education meeting
