Cherokee Trail High School counselor recognized for leadership, advocacy

CTHS Counselor Sameen DeBardSameen DeBard, a counselor at Cherokee Trail High School, recently received the Lance Huffman Award from the Colorado School Counselor Association (CSCA), during the group’s 56th Annual Conference, “Keep Calm and Counsel On,” held Nov. 9-11 in Colorado Springs. The award recognizes counselors who have demonstrated leadership and advocacy within the association and have worked to educate, promote and further the profession, not only within the state, but at the national level as well.

DeBard has been a counselor at CTHS for six years. She is a leader and co-facilitator of bully prevention efforts and awareness at CTHS, via the Student Action Task Force training, “Be an Upstander, Not a Bystander.” In addition, DeBard is an active member of CSCA, most recently serving as the Culture and Climate Coordinator.  

CSCA’s mission is to promote excellence in professional school counseling. The group serves more than 1,500 school counselors across the state through programs that advance guidance and counseling in all school work settings: elementary, middle/junior high, high school, and post-secondary.
