Cherry Creek High School has been named a 2014 GRAMMY Signature School by the GRAMMY Foundation. CCHS is one of 12 schools nationwide, selected from 123 semifinalists for this prestigious honor, which recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during an academic school year.
Each of the GRAMMY Signature Schools receives a custom award and a monetary grant ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 to benefit its music program. CCHS will receive a $2,000 grant.
More than 800 students participate in the Cherry Creek High School music program, which includes both vocal and instrumental music. CCHS offers seven choirs; Meistersingers, Girls’21, Choralaires, Statesmen, Troubadours, A Cappella and Union Street Jazz. There are six bands; Concert Band, Symphonic I, Symphonic II, Wind Ensemble, Jazz A and Jazz B. The school features three orchestras; Chamber, Concert and Symphonic. Cherry Creek High School also offers co-curricular music ensembles including Marching Band and Percussion Ensemble. These groups perform at school and in the community throughout the year, participate in competitions across the state, and perform nationally and internationally. Wind Ensemble was featured at the Music For All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 7 and the Meistersingers just returned from a concert tour in France and Spain.
A high number of students from the Cherry Creek High School music program earn All State honors each year. In 2014, 55 students were selected for All State Choir, 10 made All State Band and nine were chosen for All State Orchestra. Many CCHS music program graduates go on to study in the nation’s top college and university music programs.
The CCHS Music department is led by choir directors Adam Cave and Sarah Harrison; orchestra director Jennifer Poole and band directors Tim Libby and Sara Wynes.
