Incumbent Karen Fisher and newcomer Kelly Bates took the oath of office as members of the Cherry Creek School District Board of Education during a special board meeting on Nov. 8. Fisher and Bates were sworn in by outgoing board President Randy Perlis as family members and district leaders looked on.
Fisher, an incumbent CCSD board member first elected in 2013, and Bates, a longtime community volunteer and advocate for the district, mounted unopposed campaigns for the two open board director district posts and were elected by acclamation. They join current board members Janice McDonald, Eric Parish and David Willman on the Board of Education, which sets policy and provides strategic vision for the district and its 54,700 students.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the new board elected Willman as president, Fisher as vice president, McDonald as secretary, Parish as treasurer and Bates as assistant treasurer.
At the Nov. 8 meeting, Dr. Harry Bull, superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools, welcomed the new board members and thanked Perlis, who was term-limited, for his ten years of dedicated service to Cherry Creek Schools.
