They are role models and mentors who make a world of difference to first-year teachers in the Cherry Creek School District. At the September Board of Education meeting, Cherry Creek’s STAR Mentors were recognized for their outstanding work.
"Our STAR Mentors are some of the most talented master teachers in our district,” said teacher Sheryl Cunningham, who is president of the Cherry Creek Education Association (CCEA). “Our novice teachers are very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from their expertise and guidance."
STAR Mentors meet with new teachers weekly throughout the school year to share their experience in many areas, including effective classroom instruction, professionalism and meeting the needs of every learner in the 21st century.
Established in 1994 by the CCEA and the Cherry Creek School District, the STAR Mentor program is a nationally-recognized induction program.
“It stands as a model of cooperation and collaboration,” said Cunningham.
