Cherry Creek School District welcomes new teachers
Superintendent Mary Chesley welcomed 215 new teachers to the Cherry Creek School District and its “culture of learning” during New Teacher Orientation, held Aug. 11 at Smoky Hill High School.
“We’ve been waiting for you and we’re glad you’re here,” said Chesley, who shared quotes from recent CCSD graduates who said their teachers had an amazing impact on their lives.
“I now know that I want to be a teacher and pay forward all the amazing qualities and values that have been passed on to me,” wrote one graduate.
Chesley also cited research showing that an effective teacher is the most important factor in student success.
Interestingly, about 12 percent of the new teachers are graduates of the Cherry Creek School District.
During orientation, the teachers were introduced to the district’s vision of “Dedicated to Excellence,” its mission “To inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, to care,” and its 12 core values, including “Placing the needs and welfare of students above all else.”
The new teachers worked with several district leaders during their orientation and learned about the district’s overarching goals of Excellence and Equity and College and Post-secondary Preparedness and Success.  They also learned about the many resources available to help them provide their students with the best instruction possible.
“New Teacher Orientation was energizing and inspiring!” said Megan Cassidy, a new science teacher at Overland High School.  “It was really nice to meet people who are just starting out like I am, and forming bonds with teachers in every school in the district.  I'm very excited to be a new teacher in the Cherry Creek School District!”
